The
tournament directors classify teams into eight categories
 | Class
A: This is the open class, where
college players, ex-NBA and CBA players and former foreign pro league and AAU
players compete. |
 | Class
B: Former college players from
smaller schools, talented high school seniors and teams that are in first
place in their industrial leagues are generally classified in this category. |
 |
Classes C, DD, D, EE and E: The
committee uses age, ability, size, team records and previous N.I.T.
performances to place in respective classes. Players added from the previous
year's roster and the amount of time the players have played together also
factor in the categorization. |
 | 45 &
Older: For teams of players 45
years and older. |
All
committee classifications are final. Players can play on only one team/in
only one division, except for Class A and 45 & Older. NO ADDITIONS
TO TEAM ROSTERS! Classifications are made based on the roster you submit.
Due to lack of interest, the N.I.T. no longer offers a women's division, but
women are invited to play in any class.
